![]() ![]() Adobe said an Apple Silicon version will be released this year, but that hasn't happened yet. Lightroom Classic 10 runs on M1 Macs, but only through Rosetta translation because it isn’t yet native on Apple Silicon. The current situation, which could change quickly, is that: Like maybe allowing 32GB RAM, more powerful GPU, supporting more connected displays, etc. The speculation is that if the next wave of Apple Silicon Macs replaces those two models, they will be another level of power above the current M1 MacBook Air/Pro, and with fewer missing features.Īnd that’s why I don’t have an M1 Mac yet…I want to see how much distance the next generation puts between it and these first M1s. There is not yet a replacement for the upper spec Intel 13" MacBook Pro with 4 ports, or for the 16" MacBook Pro. Because the current M1 MacBook Pro only replaced the low-end 2-port Intel 13" MacBook Pro. Where this could change quickly is with the next round of Apple hardware announcements, whenever that is. The consensus out there seems to be that while the Pro has advantages, if you aren’t frequently using it in ways that let the advantages come out, the Air is the better value for money. One example of where it might make a difference is if you frequently do batch exports from Lightroom Classic that last significantly more than 10 minutes. Would that make a difference when using Lightroom Classic? Usually not, because photo editing is mostly bursts of high CPU usage alternating with the CPU resting. If it's less than 10 minutes, both can maintain full speed because they haven’t hit the temperature limit yet, so the Air can keep up just fine without a fan. ![]() From the tests I have seen, this is better than the Air only if you are doing something that will completely max out the CPU for around 10 minutes or more. This may be a consideration if you are going to do a lot of photo editing on battery. It has a larger battery, for longer rated battery life than the Air.The 13" M1 MacBook Pro currently has two main advantages: Click to expand. They are not that different. ![]()
